About Me

The Beginning

“Unless you photograph what you love, you are not going to make good art.”- Sally Mann

I remember as a child, the love and admiration I felt for the photographers and their work, in the National Geographic magazines. “I want to take photos of the world”, I said to myself at the tender age of 8 or so. I guess I haven’t quite conquered that dream yet, but have had the experience of travel in South Africa, Portugal, Spain and Australia. In the meantime, I am just loving life through my lens, photographing people and places. My specialities are couples, families, weddings and functions.

As a qualified teacher with more than 20 years experience and having raised three children of my own, I have the patience and perseverence to get the shot. I am confident in directing large crowds at weddings and functions with clear instructions as well as the tenderness to work with children of young ages. My own young adult kids have helped me in perfecting the poses for matric dances and couples.  I have also mastered how to improvise when it comes to the weather, shy clients, excitable children and “oopsies” that may happen. Many clients return to me because of the “calmness” I have and the ability to allow them to “just be themselves”.

Although I haven’t studied photography full time, I have completed a Diploma in Photography as well as a Diploma in Wedding Photography. During the 2020 lockdown, I invested a lot of time in being mentored and coached in expanding my wedding photography. Even though I wanted to base my photography primarily on weddings, I realised there is still a need for photography in other areas that I love. So with that being said, I continue to photograph my favourite things.

Extraordinary Experiences

Photography is a gift which leads one to photographing extraordinary experiences. I’m sure you are expecting to hear about famous places and people I may have taken of,  but for me, my most extraordinary experiences are those that are less planned and totally spontaneous. It’s when I’ve stopped on the side of the road to capture that sunset, or captured the act of kindness behind the scenes. It’s the fallen leaf in Autum or the raindrops on a petal after a storm.  Extraordinary experiences are not planned, they just happen.  Don’t be so focused on what your see through the lens, sit up focus on what’s happening around you, too.  It’s then when an exraordinary experience may cross your path and change the content of your photo forever.
